Week begins with 135 new Covid-19 cases in Latvia

Take note – story published 2 years ago

On Monday, September 13, Latvia recorded 135 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

Of the total number of positive cases, 117 were unvaccinated persons, or persons not fully vaccinated, and 18 were fully vaccinated. Monday's total is usual the lowest of the week due to a reduced number of tests being carried out on Sundays.

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 147,328.

Of 14,605 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 0.9 % were positive.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants rose again from 257.4 Sunday to 260.3 Monday, taking morbidity deeper into the 'dark red' or 'very high' risk classification, the highest of the four alert categories under the 'traffic light' system.

Sadly, four more Covid-related deaths were also confirmed, all of persons in the age range 60-79 years. The death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 2,613.

Meanwhile, in Estonia 268 new Covid cases were registered and in Lithuania 489 new cases were recorded.
