Weekly Covid-19 case count grew by 25% in Latvia

The number of newly identified cases of Covid-19 increased by 24.9% in Latvia over the past week, according to data published August 9 by the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

71 people, or 15% of all newly infected people had been vaccinated against Covid-19, while 451 or 86% had not been vaccinated or the vaccination course had not yet been completed.

An average of 7,451 tests was conducted in the last week per day and an average of 75 new cases were detected. A week before the figures were 7,468 and 60.

Over the last seven days, an average of 7 Covid-19 patients per day were admitted to hospitals (a week before 4), and an average of 50 people were treated in hospitals daily (44 the week before).

Data collected by the SPKC indicate that the incidence continues to grow among 15-49-year-olds, and currently increases are observed in all regions compared to the previous week. The reproduction rate of Covid-19 infection (R) in the last week was 1.14.

The previous week recorded a total of 71 imported cases of Covid-19. During the weeks 26-31 of the year, the most infected people came from Turkey (56 cases), Russia (46), Spain (41), Britain (37), Georgia (18), France (16), the Netherlands (15), Finland (15), Uzbekistan (13), Bulgaria (7), Greece (7) and other countries.
