Weekly hospitalized patient count grew by 35% in Latvia

During the last week, from September 6 to September 12, the number of newly detected cases of Covid-19 increased by 21.7%, Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) said September 13.

The number of virus patients admitted to hospitals also continued to increase, with a growth of 35%. An average of 218 patients were treated daily in hospitals last week (last week 161).

Of all tests performed, 79% (192,478 tests) were associated with the screening of educational establishments, while 21% (51,058 tests) tests were conducted for the rest of the population. Of the positive cases of Covid-19, 13% (351 infected) were associated with the screening of educational establishments, while 87% were the rest of the population (2,324 infected).

An average of 34,805 tests (previously 31,997) were conducted daily last week and an average of 382 new cases were detected each day (314 previously).

The increase in morbidity continued in all regions.

The reproduction rate of Covid-19 infection (R) in the last week was 1.17 (the week before 1.46).

Of the newly identified cases, 2021 people, or 82%, had not been vaccinated against Covid-19 or had completed a vaccination course, while 474 or 18% were fully vaccinated.

In the previous week, the number of cases of Covid-19 imported has decreased slightly to 60 cases, representing 2.2% of all cases in Latvia.

During weeks 31 to 36 (August 2 to September 12), the most imported cases came from Turkey (63 cases), Russia (43), Belarus (40), United Kingdom (38), Germany (30).
