Weekly increase of 47.2% in Covid-19 cases in Latvia

Between January 10 and January 16, the number of newly identified cases of Covid-19 increased by 47.2% in Latvia, reported the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) on January 17.

A slight decrease in the number of patients admitted to hospitals occurred, on average, 65 people per day were admitted.

On average, 14,389 (previously 10,220) tests were conducted per day, while 2,278 new cases were detected on average (previously 1,547) per day. Of all tests performed, 17% (17,219 tests) involved screening of educational establishments, while 83% (83,501 tests) were in the rest of the population. Of the positive cases of Covid-19, 10% (1,517 infected) were associated with the screening of educational establishments, while 90% (14,426 infected) were in the rest of the population.

Covid-19 infection was reported equally frequently in fully vaccinated and in unvaccinated/partially vaccinated people in Latvia, but 2.6 times less frequently in those who had also received a booster vaccine.
