Weekly vaccination pace drops even lower in Latvia

Take note – story published 2 years ago

Last week, the pace of vaccination against Covid-19 continued to decrease in Latvia and has been the second-lowest this summer – lower rates were only in the week of the Midsummer holiday, according to the National Health Service (NVD) data published by LETA August 23.

An average of around 4,650 people per day were vaccinated last week. In the week of Midsummer, this figure was 4,550. Vaccination was at this rate by the end of March when vaccines against Covid-19 were still relatively limited in Latvia and only individual priority groups were vaccinated.

On Sunday, August 23, only 680 people received jabs against Covid-19, 337 of which were first jabs and 343 second, including 18 people vaccinated with a Johnson & Johnson vaccine that needs only one dose. The data may still change as many vaccination authorities enter data in systems with a multiple-day lag.

Vaccination with both the first and the second dose is the most frequently performed with the Pfizer vaccine, which is also the most widely used vaccine against Covid-19 in Latvia.

Around 724,000 people or around 43.8% of the population over 12 years of age has received the first jab against Covid-19 in Latvia. Of these, around 627,000 people have received the second dose, while around 108,000 people have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The vaccination course has been completed by 735,000 or 44.5% of the population over 12 years of age.
