Foreign Ministry asks Latvians not to travel to Israel, Iran, Lebanon

In the context of continued security tensions and the significant risk of escalation in the region, the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) issued a statement October 2 strongly advising against travel to Israel, Lebanon and Iran.

To date, the MFA has not received any requests for assistance from Latvian nationals in connection with October 1 attacks. No questions have been received about the situation in Lebanon overnight. At present, no travel has been registered in the Consular Register for the countries mentioned.

According to the data of the Office of Citizenship and Migration, 5,935 Latvian citizens have registered their place of residence in Israel. 20 citizens have declared their permanent residence in Lebanon. According to the information available to the Honorary Consul of Latvia, there could be around 80 Latvian citizens in Lebanon.

So far, the MFA has received enquiries from three families in Lebanon about possible evacuation flights. The MFA explains that, for the time being, departure from Lebanese territory is possible by commercial flights, by water or by land, and that no evacuation flights are organised by EU Member States.

The MFA urges nationals to make use of all exit options or, if it is not possible to leave Lebanon, to seek safe refuge in Lebanese territory in accordance with the instructions of the local authorities.

In case of need for assistance, including information, the MFA invites you to contact the Consular Department 24-hour hotline +371 26337711 or the Honorary Consul of Latvia in Lebanon at +961 3224000.
