Latvian society has donated almost half a million euros - 482,826 euros - for the young man's treatment, the Ziedot.lv charity donation portal confirmed.
22,120 individuals and 66 companies have donated to support Gabriels. The largest donation has been 10,000 euros donated by a private person, the smallest was 18 cents. The largest donation by a business is 10,000 euros from the state-owned energy company Latvenergo within the framework of its oncology patient support program.
As reported by LSM back in August, Gabriels' parents made an emotional last-ditch appeal when presented with the huge costs of his treatment. They touched a nerve in Latvian society and four months later, the necessary funds are in place.
On the Ziedot.lv portal, donations began to be collected on July 15 of this year, and the last donations were made on November 5.
"Sincere thanks from Gabriels' family for the help at a difficult time! Latvian society has shown solidarity and empathy. However, such cases should not lie on the shoulders of donors, but should be able to find a fair solution and allocated funding from the state budget," stated Ziedot.lv.
Gabriels has already received two courses of the necessary drug, and the treatment so far has been successful. The next, third course of treatment should be received this month.
The best of luck to you in your treatment, Gabriels.
