In an entry on September 12 the Minister expressed her gratitude to her colleagues in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Justice and Interior and to all those who worked tirelessly so that the girl could return home.

In late July, a man with a child illegally crossed the Zilupe River from Latvia into Russia on a SUP board. The border crossers were detained in Russia and the State Border Guard Service requested official information from the Russian side on the status of the persons in Russia.
The man was identified as Stanislavs Bukainis, a pro-Kremlin activist accused in the criminal case of the Baltic Anti-Fascists organization. He had not returned his daughter, Monika Bukaine, born in 2019, to her place of residence.
The State Police detained two persons in Latvia as part of an urgent investigation into the abduction of a minor.
