It was previously scheduled to welcome its first passengers in the rather more clement climate of August this year, but due to technical problems, the opening has been postponed to an unknown date.
On Tuesday, November 12, the Ferris wheel received one of its integral components - the cabins.
"What makes it unique is that it is a giant wheel by classification. It is more than 60 meters [high] and there are not that many of them in the world. The wheel itself is quite complex. What we see is a metal construction. That is one thing. But inside there is a lot of automation and control," explained Dmitrijs Uspenskis, a member of the board of RPR Operator, the company implementing the project.
A total of 30 cabins will be installed - 8 people per cabin will be able to see Riga from above in all seasons.
At the beginning of the year, it was planned that the Ferris wheel would welcome its first riders in August this year, but plans changed due to various technical problems. Now the builders hope to open it this year.
"We are planning to start the tests in a week and a half, [..]" Uspenskis said.
If everything goes as planned, the Ferris wheel will be operational by Christmas. If not, then not.
