The MFA reiterates its reminder to Latvian citizens not to travel to Belarus in view of possible provocations by the authorities and difficulties in providing consular assistance there.

As reported earlier, four young people from Latvia were detained in Belarus in July. According to a video posted on social media, the young people had traveled to Belarus to attend a festival. Marijuana was allegedly found in the young men's car and all four were detained.
Given Belarus' involvement in the war launched by Russia against Ukraine, the increased activity of Russian and Belarusian armed forces on Belarusian territory, the significant security risks, and the unpredictable development of the security situation, Latvians are advised not to travel to Belarus.
The MFA stresses that travelers may be subjected to provocations by the Belarusian authorities, falsely accused of violating Belarusian law, and arrested as a result. The Ministry adds that due to the lack of rule of law in Belarus, Latvia's ability to assist such persons is very limited.
