They gathered at the Vērmane garden where a concert of Christian music warmed up the event. The participants held white balloons and posters with references to the Scripture.
The March for Jesus takes place in Riga for the first time, but it dates back to 1987, when many believers took to the streets of London to pray and praise God together.
Latvia's largest archbishop of Christian denominations supported this event – Zbigņevs Stankēvičs, who represents the Roman Catholic Church, and Jānis Vanags, who heads the Lutheran Church.
The "March for Jesus" is held in Riga as an interfaith and international Christian march bringing together believers from different denominations and congregations to "celebrate and proclaim the victory of Jesus Christ." The march in Rīga is planned to become an annual event.
