Given the security challenges in Europe, the Olympics are not just the concern of one country - France has asked 46 countries to lend a helping hand by sending a total of 2,185 law enforcement officers to Paris.
A few months ago, the State Police received a request from France to provide legal assistance in support of the Olympic Games in France.
The State Police organized a competition for which 15 officers from different regions of Latvia applied. Seven candidates were selected.
Police officers in France are required to carry out their duties in uniform, carrying their issued special equipment and their service firearm. The French side undertakes to cover the costs of transport to and from the place of duty, accommodation and meals. The Latvian police officers will carry out their duties from July 11 to September 9.
