Moment of silence for Ukraine on Tuesday morning in Latvia

November 19 marks the 1,000th day since Russia's full-scale military invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

Latvia's top officials call for a moment of silence at 9 am on that day to commemorate the dead.

"Ukraine is fighting tirelessly every day. For more than two years, the Ukrainian people have resisted Russian aggression with admirable courage and perseverance. Latvia's support for Ukraine is strong and unwavering. Latvia and its people stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine in its struggle against the aggressor - Russia," the officials said in the statement.

Local authorities and organizations are also invited to organize a moment of silence in various places in Latvia and to light 1,000 candles in honor of the victims.

We will also remember Latvian volunteer Vitalijs Smirnovs, who fell on October 1, 2023 in eastern Ukraine.
