In 2014 a total of 94 people died in fires, while the figure was slightly lower at 90 in 2015. This is the lowest number in 15 years.
Significantly fewer people drowned in 2015 in comparison to 2014, with 154 drowning in 2014 and 109 last year. That's about 30% less.
The number of fires was down 15% as well, though the number of people who suffered in fires went up by 7% to 272.
The number of people who died in fires has already reached 15 this year, however.
The below infographic shows that in 2015 VUGD received a total of 18,892 calls, from which 10,311 were related to fires, 6,138 to rescue works and 274 to forest fires, while 2,169 were prank or unrelated calls.
Most of the calls (46%) were from Rīga, with the proportions for the rest of the regions shown on the rightmost pie chart.
