In the survey, moms were invited to evaluate themselves in the role of a mother from 1 to 10, 10 being the highest. 84% of the respondents placed their score at 7 or above (36% at 7 – 'good', 35% at 8 – 'very good', 10% at 9 – 'excellent', 3% at 10 – 'outstanding'). A further 10% of moms value themselves at 6 or 'almost good'.
The psychologist, “Mammamuntetiem.lv” expert Sabīne Bērziņa said that those moms who gave themselves a lower score often associate it with the fact that there is not enough time to dedicate to children, or that they can't get everything the child wants.
On the other hand, those moms who gave themselves a good assessment supported it with their good intentions - that they tried to do as well as they could, that they handled all responsibilities in general, and observed that their relationship with children was good.
Survey data show that 31% of moms say they match their ideal at a 7 or 8. Bērziņa said that the typical ideal of a mother, according to the respondents, is one that can respond to a child's emotional needs, is understanding, loving and supportive.
At the same time, only a sixth of the respondents said that they regularly take care of their physical and emotional well-being.
95% of moms said they had felt tired in the last six months. 50% said very often, and 45% said they had felt tired occasionally. Only 5% of moms said they were rarely tired or not at all.
63% of moms would like to spend more time alone with their partner, 56% - start regular exercising, 27% - focus on their hobby and 23% - start visiting a psychologist or psychotherapist.
The survey was conducted in cooperation with the information and communication technology company “Bite Latvia” and the real estate developer “YIT Latvija”. In total, 1,116 moms across Latvia participated in the survey.
44% of the responders have one child, 35% have two children, 14% have three children and 5% have more than three children.
