Animal rights activists cage themselves by Latvian Saeima

On Wednesday, a month-long animal rights protection campaign begins by the Saeima building, Latvian Radio reported September 15.

From September 15 to October 14, there will constantly be people in a large metal cage outside the parliament building, urging deputies to vote on a ban on fur-farming in Latvia.

People will be on 'duty' in shifts and each shift will be 12 hours long.

Katrīna Krīgere, head of the animal rights organization Dzīvnieku brīvība, said:

“The Saeima will soon see a proposal for amendments to the Animal Protection Law on the prohibition of fur-farming in Latvia. Our aim is to encourage Members to make the right decision. So vote for humanity and against fur-farming. We want to remind Members every day that this vote is crucial for thousands of innocent animals. And, yes, we voluntarily lock ourselves in for 12 hours to free foxes and mink, which are forever trapped in cages,” Krīgere said.
