According to the Welfare Ministry's (LM) estimates, 110 thousand people will be provided free face masks, LM Social Services Department Director Aldis Dūdiņš said in an interview on Latvian Television November 9.

Masks will be provided to the poor and those with low-income, as well as people who receive home care, day care or crisis center service. Altogether masks will have to be provided to 110 thousand people.

However, this number of people is variable, and LM will count on the need for 250 thousand masks: two masks per person.

“That's why this figure is as if relatively large – it's about 110 thousand – but it's the known number of people who would have to be provided with masks,” Dūdiņš said.

Procurement for the provision of masks has been carried out by the Ministry of Defense. As of November 14, the Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) is expected to start delivering them to municipalities, while they will distribute masks to residents, Dūdiņš said.
