Black stork returns to Kurzeme following 17 years of absence

Take note – story published 6 years ago

A black stork has returned to a nest set up by the Nature Conservation Agency after leaving it 17 years ago, the agency said on June 5.

The stork returned to the nest in Kurzeme close by to the Zlēkas parish.

It had left Kurzeme after the bought holding the nest had broke.

"Most of the black storks have already hatched their young this year, however there are some surprising discoveries before the nesting season in April and May when we check the nests that had been empty before," said agency representative Helmuts Hofmanis.

The Nature Conservation Agency had set up an artificial nest platform next to the tree a few years ago.
