Latvia’s Border Guard officers taking part in the EU FRONTEX Agency joint operations patrolling the Mediterranean Sea for refugees rescued 38 people during a patrol mission, according to a release by State Border Guard spokesperson Jevgēnija Pozņaka.
According to the report, the patrol team at sea noticed a sinking rubber raft with 38 immigrants on board, among them children.
They immediately commenced a rescue operation in the “selfless” performance of their duties and saved the lives of the people on board, including three small children.
