On Friday, December 17, the annual charity marathon “Dod Pieci!” will be launched at noon, organizers said.

The charity marathon “Dod Pieci!” this year will highlight the problem of environmental accessibility for people with disabilities, calling on the public to see the daily lives of people with visual, hearing and movement disabilities.

Funds donated during the marathon will be channeled through the project partners – the charity Ziedot.lv and the association of disabled people and their allies – for the installation of ramps and lifts, for the improvement of people's residence, for the purchase of technical aids and other needs related to improving environmental accessibility near public infrastructure.

Dod pieci is run by youth radio station pieci.lv [part of the same public media framework as LSM].

The will be the eighth time the pieci.lv station's DJs have locked themselves into a perspex box on Doma Square while broadcasting to the nation and collecting donations, with members of the public urged to give at least five euros in order to get a record request played on air.

This year's marathon broadcast will take place December 17-22, round the clock, and will be streamed on pieci.lv, live video on www.dod.pieci.lv, as well as Dod pieci Facebook page.

Donations €5 and up can be made on the website www.dod.pieci.lv, as well as at the glass studio in Old Rīga, Doma Square and on Ziedot.lv.

During the marathon, Circle K will donate 1 cent to “Dod Pieci!” from each liter of fuel bought by natural persons. There is also a charity auction on the dod.pieci.lv website.
