The Ziedot.lv charity foundation has received €150 thousand to extend aid to war refugees from Ukraine. The money has been allocated from the European Economic Area and Norwegian financial facility. The aid is intended mainly for the employment of social workers working with refugee families, Latvian Television reported July 18.

Since July, the website of the “Ziedot.lv” fund has a separate section in Ukrainian and an application questionnaire so that Ukrainian refugees can apply for and receive assistance. It is primarily about medical services, medicines, various products for learning and studies. At least one such application is received every day and the fund expects interest to only grow as autumn comes.

“These could be utility charges that will be elevated in the fall. Food prices have also increased, and school is approaching – learning facilities for remote studies or learning in schools for Ukrainian war refugee families – will be challenging and public support will be needed,” said Ilze Ošāne, head of communication at the Ziedot.lv Foundation.

She dismissed concerns that donor activity would have declined. It is as much as it is at war, but the sums have become smaller.

The new additional funding will facilitate the work of the Fund. A total of €150 thousand will be spent on the administrative needs of the fund to work with the Ukrainians.

“For social workers who take phone calls. Who meet the families of the Ukrainian war refugees, help, show where services can be received. Day-to-day work, in principle,” the fund spokeswoman said.

So far, the Ziedot.lv Fund has received more than €10 million in donations to support Ukrainians.
