In Riga, Friday, July 31, by the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD) vehicle inspection station on Antenas Street, a child has been run over, news agency LETA said.

State Police spokeswoman Līna Kaļķe told LETA that the call to Antenas Street was received by the police around 13:23, when a Mercedes Benz car hit a boy who sadly died from the sustained injuries.

The police are currently investigating the circumstances.

The CSDD's representative, Ieva Bērziņa, told LETA that the tragic accident occurred when the vehicle was leaving the technical inspection station.

Bērziņa said the station was still working, adding that no such tragedies have occurred before at the CSDD.

LSM previously reported that this year there have been a number of car accidents where children have died, exceeding last year's statistics already in July.
