The service said the fire was put out at 7.30 p.m., with the total area affected standing at 770 hectares.
Natural damage is still being estimated. "We can't tell if the forest is dead. Trees may start to wither away two to three months afterward," said State Forest Service rep Zigmunds Jaunķiķis.
The cause is unlikely to be ascertained, seeing as the fire raged across a large area, admitted Jaunķiķis.
The fire started as the Saber Strike exercise involving thousands of allied troops is taking place across the country.
