Five injured in passenger bus crash in central Latvia

Take note – story published 5 years ago

On January 2, five people were injured in a bus crash in Džūkstes parish, Tukums Municipality. The injured passengers have been taken to a hospital, reports LSM's Latvian-language service.

In total the bus was carrying twelve passengers plus the driver.

According to Latvia's road maintenance company Latvijas valsts ceļi, the crash occurred on the Liepāja motorway near Pienava. Traffic has been limited to a single lane.

After arriving to the scene, rescuers made it into the bus through the main windshield and the hatch, rescuing the five people who were injured. The rest made it out safely on their own.

None of the passengers were seriously injured.

The police think the bus crashed due to a slippery road or inappropriately high speed. Latvia's State Police ask drivers to be extra careful during the current snowstorm and opt for a safe driving speed.
