Ghetto Games are using their experience for hosting events in Latvia to put on similar shows in other countries. They are organizing street sports events in slums where they promote sports to leave a positive influence on the young people growing up there.
A team of eight people arrived to the Philippines on January 13 with organizer Raimonds Elbakjans saying that their ultimate goal is to seek people who've dedicated their lives to urban culture and slums and use that experience to create a worldwide online community.
They will be joined by four of Latvia's street ball champions on February 4. They plan to look at the country where basketball enjoys a quasi-religious status and to try their luck against the kings of Manila's asphalt courts.
"What we've seen is very impressive. There's basketball everywhere. They're even playing it at the Manila cemetery," said Ghetto Games representative Laura Dabare.
