Head of public property manager steps down

Take note – story published 7 years ago

On March 10 Mārtiņš Tols, the head of Valsts nekustamie īpašumi - Latvia's public property manager - stepped down, effective March 20.

A competition for the vacancy will start next week, along with a competition for three spots at the company's board, said the Finance Ministry.

The last six months saw contracts being broken for two large reconstruction projects - for the Literature and Music Museum and the New Riga Theater. Construction companies said that systemic problems persist in public procurement, while the contracting authority complained of price dumping.

The court has halted any new agreements over rebuilding the Literature and Music Museum, which means there's risk of losing €4.2m in EU funding.
