Huawei hints at establishing R&D center in Latvia

On Thursday, during Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma's (Unity) visit to China, she met with the management of Chinese telecoms giant Huawei. The company representatives expressed interest to open a research and development center in Latvia, reported LETA Friday.

During the meeting, the prime minister stressed that entrepreneurs are also welcome to Latvia in the framework of 16+1 cooperation format of China and Central and Eastern Europe in order to familiarize themselves with the country and business opportunities, as well as to expand current activities.

Huawei, which already has a presence in Latvia, showed interest in establishing a research and development center in Latvia, thereby strengthening its footing in the country.

Straujuma thanked Huawei for the social responsibility the company is showing by supporting the ZZ Championship that is popular among Latvian students.
