A representative of the Food and Veterinary Service announced Monday that the service has shut down an illegal pastry producer on Maskavas st. in Rīga.
The potentially hazardous pastries were baked at a 12-square-meter room in the first story of an apartment building. Their produce included pizzas and belash - meaty 'heart-stopper' pastry boiled in oil.
Inspectors from the service established that the pastries were baked in unhygienic conditions, with dirty equipment and the products stored on the floor.
Employees at the illicit bakery couldn't provide a certificate on the materials used for baking, nor any other documents related to the company's activities.
Legal proceedings have been launched against the pastry pirates who now face a fine of up to 700 euros and the confiscation of their food.
