Join the #WhiteFriday tradition in Latvia

Latvian charity and non-governmental (NGO) organizations urge everyone to join the new #WhiteFriday tradition by donating to a charity or NGO, according to Latvian Television's morning news broadcast “Rīta Panorāma” on February 7.

“Most often donor activity increases at the end of the year, Christmas, but many organizations require regular support. The moment #WhiteFriday gains more attention than Black Friday sales, we can safely say humanity has a future,” said Ziedot.lv Director Rūta Dimanta.

The campaign is the opposite of consumerism. Organizers want to raise awareness about charitable giving by organizing the campaign twice a year - the first friday in February and the last friday before Black Friday sales in November, according Mobilly and Ziedot.lv (Donate.lv).

Many people think that you have to be rich to donate, but even 5 euros can help if more people get involved. Now that the holiday shopping season is over, #WhiteFriday campaign organizers hope people will donate towards improving Latvian society as a whole.

“Show your support for the #WhiteFriday on February 7 by filling your social media with the color white, sharing the appeal to get involved in the initiative and donate by choosing the goal you most support,” said organizers.

Many meaningful initiatives are fulfilled only thanks to regular donations. #WhiteFriday hopes to help achieve short-term goals. Small, but regular donations can go a long way towards improving our environment, and creating a unified, more open and tolerant society.
