As previously reported by LSM, this year's event is highlighting the problem of environmental accessibility for people with disabilities, calling on the public to see the daily lives of people with visual, hearing and movement disabilities. By lunchtime Thursday some 220,000 euros had been raised.
Funds donated during the marathon will be channeled through the project partners – the charity Ziedot.lv and the association of disabled people and their allies – for the installation of ramps and lifts, for the improvement of residences, for the purchase of technical aids and other needs related to improving environmental accessibility near public infrastructure.
This is the eighth time the pieci.lv station's DJs have locked themselves into a perspex box on Doma Square while broadcasting to the nation and collecting donations, with members of the public urged to give at least five euros in order to get a record request played on air.
You can hear and see the final hours streamed on pieci.lv, live video on www.dod.pieci.lv, as well as Dod pieci Facebook page.
Donations of €5 and up can be made on the website www.dod.pieci.lv, as well as at the glass studio in Old Rīga, Doma Square and on Ziedot.lv.
