The Latvian recipients of the European Citizen's Prize this year were ‘Viegli palīdzēt’ (Helping is Easy) association supporting citizens of Belarus and Liene Dambiņa, head of the Children’s Hospital Foundation (BSF) and the Adolescent Resource Centre (PRC).
Since the ceremony could not take place in 2020, last year's winner, public initiative platform ManaBalss.lv was also awarded.
"Human dignity, freedom, equality, justice, solidarity, democracy - these are values at EU level. In our work, we Members are bringing these values to the fore of EU policy. The European Citizens Award allows us to see people who embody these values in life and do it from the heart,” MEP Dace Melbārde said at the ceremony.
This year, the prize is awarded to 28 winners, one from each Member State and two from Latvia. You can watch the video of the ceremony here. You can read more about the winners here.
The prize has been given since 2008 to projects and initiatives that facilitate cross-border cooperation and mutual understanding inside the EU through their day-to-day work.
