A Facebook entry from the last weekend has some 1,000 people complaining that calls are being made from different foreign countries, including Samoa, Belarus, Lithuania, Estonia, Somalia, Congo, Liberia, Burundi, and elsewhere.
If people call back, they may be charged for the call without being told about it.
One Ieva Ādamsone told LTV that she called back to Samoa and was charged €1.70 for a 16-second call.
Meanwhile phone operators are blocking the numbers, with Tele2 rep Rita Šteinberga saying July 24 that they've received about 50 complaints over the calls.
Tele2 say that the dialed numbers are most likely generated automatically and no data leaks are involved.
