Kučinskis is currently participating in a meeting of the European Council in Brussels. Yesterday, the Council was unable to solve differences between eastern and western European Union members regarding the bloc's refugee policy.
According to Kučinskis, Latvia supports Tusk's proposal to reform the EU's policy on migration in order to develop more active cooperation with African countries and measures to prevent refugee flows into the EU.
"In order to solve these problems, we are prepared to support the creation of a common financial instrument, on condition that it will not affect the EU cohesion policy and direct payments," said Kučinskis.
He explained that Latvia did not support the EU's current migration policy as the refugee quotas were not working.
The vast majority of refugees, who arrive in Latvia under the EU relocation scheme, opt to leave the country.
