Latvian Daesh supporter killed in Syria

An Latvian Muslim who had gone to Syria to support terror group Daesh has been killed, Security Police chief Normunds Mezviets told the independent LNT TV channel Monday, reports LSM's Latvian language service.

The man - who has not been named - was a convert to Islam who went to war-torn Syria with his wife and child with the express purpose of supporting Daesh, Mezviets said.

The seurity chief did not comment on the circumstances of the man's death or the means by which his demise was confirmed to the satisfaction of the Latvian authorities.

He did however confirm the individual was one of three Latvians suspected of joining the ranks of Daesh, one of whom has been named as Olegs Petrovs.
