Latvian writers go West in June

In June, five Latvian writers will go to the UK and US to present their books, published in English, the Latvian Literature platform told the press. 

Juris Kronbergs, Krišjānis Zeļģis, Rūta Briede and Jānis Joņevs will go to the UK to present their books, while Valts Ernštreits will visit the US.

Poet Juris Kronbergs will present The Book of Clouds, published under The Emma Press, at the May Half-Term festival on June 1. That same day, he'll also give readings and a children's poetry workshop in London's Poetry Society center. While on June 5, he'll read poetry at the Coventry Public Library.

On June 2, poet Valts Ernštreits will partake in a discussion at the Stanford University, discussing his efforts to revive Latvia's indigenous Livonian language. The discussion takes place on the occasion of the release of the bilingual Trillium poetry anthology published in English and Livonian. 

While poet and brewer Krišjānis Zeļģis, on June 7, will give joint readings with UK poets Elizabeth Parker and Christopher Meredith at the Moon Lane bookstore in Cardiff. On June 9 he'll read at the Llansteffan festival in the same city, from the poetry collection Beasts, published by Parthian. 

On June 12, children's book author and illustrator Rūta Briede will give a workshop to children aged 9-12 at a school in Billingham. Her book, The Queen of Seagulls, was recently published by The Emma Press. 

Writer Jānis Joņevs, in his turn, is at the Hay festival in Wales where he'll be partaking in a discussion featuring French, Zimbabwean, Estonian and British writers. His novel, Doom 94, was recently published by the Wrecking Ball Press.
