The 21-year-old Latvian citizen Arams Gabrieļans who was wanted for stabbing his friend was detained Tuesday in Armenia, reported Armenpress.

Gabrieļans was wanted since June 2015 for stabbing his friend and schoolmate Kristians Čirpuss to death.

He was sentenced to ten years in prison for stabbing his friend and schoolmate to death. He was not put behind bars in the courtroom however and consequently fled the country.

Čirpuss' family turned to the European Court of Human Rights as the Latvian authorities were unable to enforce the court sentence.

The case resonated throughout Latvia as it was at the time suspected Gabrieļans, then sixteen years old, had killed his friend under the influence of a legal high called "Spice" that was not banned at the time. Analyses did not confirm this however.
