Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Latvia's citizens and businesses have donated 104 thousand euros to Ukraine on average each day, contributing a total of €38 million, the charity platform Ziedot.lv said on February 24.

Representatives of Ziedot.lv said that the Latvian society has shown high solidarity with Ukraine since the beginning of the broad invasion and has provided it with support in all areas needed – defense, humanitarian aid for civilians, the healthcare system, preservation of cultural values, aid for war refugees, and others.

Existing charity organizations got involved and new ones were formed: Twitterconvoy, camouflage net movement "Elīzas", 3D drone part makers "Savvaļas bites", entrepreneur association “Entrepreneurs for Peace”, the association “TEV”, the movements knitting warm socks and making candles, the refugee support center “Common Ground” and others.

The Latvian society has provided the largest aid in the form of donations through Ziedot.lv. During the year, 331,336 residents, 2,068 companies, and 15 municipalities donated through Ziedot.lv.

In the first days of the war, citizens collected donations, volunteered at the border for the security of Ukrainian refugees, housed Ukrainian refugees in their homes, organized charity concerts, sunflower planting promotions, art exhibitions, and other support measures.

“The year in the war has also united the people of Latvia, allowing an agreement on the use of the official language in the education system and institutions, and the demolition of monuments glorifying occupation. The people of Latvia have shown their values and will continue to protect them in Latvia and Europe,” said the charity.

Support for Ukraine continues. There are 18 different initiatives on the portal “Ziedot.lv” to support Ukraine.
