320 medics were treated with Uzbek plov (pilaf) and a hot drink. 50 kilograms of meat, 50 kilograms of rice, 40 kilograms of carrots and just as many onions. Brothers Artis and Roberts Lukša started chopping the day before to fill four giant pots with plov.
“Our medics have earned that the tasty plov is handed to them. You have to stand there for four hours, can't leave at all,” said Artis Lukša, who started cooking at 8 a.m. When the meal is ready, there are plenty of hungry medics.
Jelgava City Hospital Board member Kārlis Smilga said: “It is a great pleasure to have this gesture, and we appreciate that the catering people, for whom this time is not easy, are grateful to the doctors who have overcome this wave of Covid-19.”
The drop in visitors, affected by the strict Covid-19 rules, has reduced turnover by up to 70 percent for restaurants. But the brothers stated that it was easier when doing something good. Seeing the delight of the medics, it was clear that this would become an annual tradition.
