More Latvians receiving driving licenses

The Latvian Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD) issued 12,222 driving licenses in the first seven months of this year, 4.8 percent up from the same period in 2014, the CSDD told BNS newswire on Wednesday.

Of all the driving licenses issued in the period, 6,360 licenses were issued to women and 5,862 to men.

As of August 1, 2015, there were 844,860 valid driving licenses in Latvia, including 41.3 percent or 348,856 licenses held by women and 58.7 percent or 496,001 licenses held by men.

In the first seven months of 2014, CSDD issued 11,664 driving licenses, and the number of licenses issued during the full year 2014 was 21,226, up by 2.3 percent from 2013. At the beginning of July 2014, there were 844,733 valid driving licenses in Latvia, including 40.8 percent of licenses held by women and 59.2 percent of licenses held by men.

CSDD is a state-owned company registering motor vehicles in Latvia, issuing driving licenses and conducting road worthiness examinations of vehicles.
