The State Police has fined opposition Member Aldis Gobzems for organizing an unauthorized protest against “compulsory vaccination” on August 4, LETA reported August 30.

State Police spokeswoman Gita Gžibovska confirmed to LETA that a penalty of €350 was imposed. Later, State Police decided to also impose a fine of €2,000 for organizing a meeting in which there could have been a serious threat to people's health.

On the evening of August 4, several hundred people gathered at the Cabinet building in Riga, expressing their displeasure with the Saeima's conceptually supported draft law on the right to dismiss employees without a Covid-19 certificate.

The call for assembly had been spread by the opposition deputy Gobzems, who himself was present but later left.
