The latest batch of United States military personnel was due to arrive in Latvia Wednesday as part of operation "Atlantic Resolve", designed to beef up the Baltics' ability to defend themselves against the threat of a aggressive Russia.

The new rotation of 170 members of the US 2nd Cavalry will train alongside Latvian soldiers until early May.

They will be bringing with them the 'Stryker' vehicles that have been such a hit on previous rotations as well as various other pieces of hardware bound for the main Adazi military base just outside Riga.

In November last year more than 70 soldiers from the US Cavalry arrived with six "Black Hawk" helicopters.

The Ministry of Defense is asking the public to take an understanding attitude if they get caught up in traffic while the new equipment is moved around the roads.
