New winter destinations from Riga Airport

On October 25, the national airline airBaltic enters the winter season with an improved schedule of flights linking the Baltic region with Europe, the Middle East, and the CIS, the company informed LETA Friday, while Ryanair will open a route to Berlin, and Air Cairo will launch weekly flights to Hurghada.

For the winter season, airBaltic is introducing new winter holiday destinations of Italian Verona - it's unclear whether it's the Verona of the Capulets or the Montagues - and Austrian Salzburg to its route map. These complement airBaltic's existing destinations in the Alps, the High Tatras, and the Caucasus.

BNS adds that the new destinations will be served once a week starting December 26. According to spokeswoman of the airport, Sarmite Rinmane, the new additions will bring the total number of destinations served by the airport up to 69 for the winter season.

October 27, Ryanair will open a route to Berlin (Schönefeld) with seven flights per week, and Air Cairo will launch weekly charter flights to Hurghada in Egypt on October 31.

Fully-owned by the Latvian state, Riga International Airport is the largest air traffic hub in the Baltic states.
