An aircraft carrying 50 people, including the team of the Togliatti Lada ice hockey club, skidded on the Riga Airport runway before takeoff on February 17. No one was injured.

Flights have been resumed after an interruption lasting from 11.58 a.m. to 13.47 p.m.

Five incoming flights were diverted and eight were delayed. A further eight flights were cancelled, the airport said.

LETA reported that the aircraft carried members Togliatti Lada ice hockey club.

"We started accelerating and the plane moved towards the right, outside," Artis Ābols, head coach of the club told Russia's RIAN.

"The temperatures are above zero, it's raining and it seems there was no ice on the runway. Preliminary information suggests that one of the engines did not accelerate to the necessary speed so the plane skidded," said Ābols.
