Another in a series of protests took place June 2 with around 1,000 people participating in a demonstration against attempts to establish Latvian as the main language of instruction in all Latvian schools.

The event was organized by the political party Latvian Russian Union (LKS) headed by pro-Kremlin politician Tatjana Ždanoka.

The demonstrators, waving banners mainly in Russian, processed through the center of Rīga and dispersed. Leaders claimed to have around 4,500 participants in the procession, though the LETA news agency estimated the number to be more like 1,000.
