Revenue Service deputy director fired

Ināra Pētersone, the general director of the Latvian State Revenue Service, has fired her deputy and the Customs Board's director Tālis Kravalis, reported LETA Tuesday.

Pētersone said in an interview with commercial LNT television on Tuesday that Kravalis' security clearance for access to state secrets has expired, but he has not asked for its extension. As it is not possible to work in the position without the security clearance, a decision has been made to fire Kravalis.

Kravalis is also the subject of several disciplinary proceedings at the Revenue Service.

Previously Kravalis was suspended from his job as the Customs Board's director by the Revenue Service's Director Ināra Pētersone in October 2015.

Pētersone said that Kravalis had been dismissed due to his failure to control the procedure of the European Union's regulation on transit in Latvia. Another reason was related to Kravalis' statements, which were damaging the Revenue Service's reputation, Pētersone explained earlier.
