One of Latvia's senior police officers has been arrested on suspicion of corruption, becoming only the latest in a long line of top cops to find themselves on the wrong end of the law.

At a press conference Thursday, Internal Security Bureau (IDVB) chief Valters Murnieks said that State Police Public Order Chief Arvils Feierabends and his deputy, Inspector Ilmars Pletiens were among four people currently being held over alleged bribery involving thousands of euros.

The responsibility of Artis Velss, the head of the Public Order Police and Feierabends' immediate superior, will also be assessed, Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis said.

Murnieks said that all four individuals involved in the case, including two police officials, have been remanded in custody but declined to reveal the identities of the two other suspects.
