The airport said that flights Helsinki-Riga with arrival time 13:50 and 17:25 and flights Riga-Helsinki with departure time 14:20 and 17:55; as well as flights Berlin-Riga with arrival time 12:30, 12:50, 22:10 and flights Riga-Berlin with departure time 8:30, 13:15 and 18:20 have been cancelled.
Passengers are advised to follow the flight schedule updates on Riga Airport website, call the information line 1817 or contact their carrier.
airBaltic flights from Vilnius have also been cancelled, with travel plans for 600 of the company's passengers affected, the company said in an irate press release.
"airBaltic apologizes to the passengers for the changes in the flight register. [..] airBaltic had on Thursday actively contacted passengers who had tickets for Friday and asked them to fly one day prior to the planned date. For this a larger plane was used for Berlin flights so that the extra clients who responded to the call could be transported," said company representative Jānis Vanags.
"This is yet another aviation strike week in Europe that's disrupting the economy. In total almost 1,500 flights have been cancelled this week, with a further 10,000 being delayed, affecting over 1 million travelers, said Airlines 4 Europe," the release notes.
Airport workers at Berlin currently on strike over pay and at Helsinki labor negotiations are dragging on between airport ground staff and their employers.
