Twelve people, including children, injured in yacht fire in Riga

On July 16, twelve people sustained injuries in an accident on a yacht in Riga that struck high-voltage electric cables and caught fire, LETA learned.

The State Fire and Rescue Service reported that a call to the site was received at 4:35 p.m. on Sunday. The accident happened next to Hapaka ditch and yacht port, 200 meters away from the bank.

The fire covered 20 square meters. 12 people were rescued from the yacht and handed over to medics.

Energency Medical Service representative Ilze Buksa reported, that nine brigades were working on the site. The 12 victims, including seven children, received emergency medical service. The victims had sustained serious burns and possibly also electrical injuries. All of them have been hospitalized.
