Society asks Saeima to do away with masks for pupils

Take note – story published 3 years ago

An initiative has been submitted to the Saeima to cancel the decision that all pupils wear masks at school and outside, Latvian Television reported December 3.

More than 19,000 signatures have been collected on the voting portal Manabalss.lv.

Government decided this week that all teachers must wear masks at school, and from January 4 that must also be done by pupils.

The Ministry of Education and Science (IZM) said that the use of face masks in educational establishments for both educators and pupils would be an effective solution for reducing COVID-19 infection. This is evidenced by positive experience in at least six European countries with strict requirements for the use of masks in schools.

At the same time, Saeima Speaker Inara Murniece (National Alliance) said that the government may have to reconsider its decision on the requirement for all pupils to wear masks in and outside of school.
