State authority websites to get unified design in Latvia

A new platform for national and local authorities has been created, which will allow their home pages to be created in a uniform design and structure said Vita Vodinska, head of the project, in an interview with Latvian Radio July 23.

Currently, many public authorities' homepages are out of date, said the project manager. For example, many are not compatible with mobile devices. Up to now 13 websites have now been upgraded, but by the end of the year a total of 60 will be created in uniform design.

"Each institution has its own home page as it has been before. It is designed and maintained centrally. For example, the homepage of the State Employment Agency or the Riga City Council, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control, is created in a uniform design, in a single structure, "Vodinska said.

This will make it easier for users to navigate homepages and find the necessary information. In addition, special attention is paid to making it easy for people with special needs.

The project will cost around two million euro, of which 1.7 million are covered by the European Union.
